Volunteers are needed in ways that are beyond what traditionally may come to mind.
http://volunteermatch.org/ will connect you with opportunities that match your geographic area, your areas of interest, and your areas of expertise.
After registering and indicating your preferences, every Saturday morning you'll receive an e-mail list of places and organizations that need your help in the coming days and weeks -- many are simply online so you never even need to leave home to participate as a volunteer. I've subscribed to http://volunteermatch.org/ for years and the opportunities never cease to amaze me.
Two upcoming events in today's list of nearby volunteer opportunities:
- Habitat Restoration at Mowitch Estuary on Commencement Bay, April 5, 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. http://www.volunteermatch.org/results/org_detail.jsp?orgid=43375
- Blackberry Whack at West Hylebos Wetlands Park, April 5, 9:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. http://www.volunteermatch.org/results/org_detail.jsp?orgid=36241
Register your interest as a volunteer or the needs of your organization with Volunteer Match.

Beautiful pictures and great informative post!
Thanks, Stephanie.
That shot of the Golden Eagle was in a treetop at Portland Avenue and Highway 512. I shot it on the fly as we passed by on the overpass...I couldn't tell what the bird was until I downloaded and enlarged the image, then cropped it to just include the bird and the treetop. I could see though it was a large bird with the way the treetop was bending under its weight. I've never seen a Golden Eagle before, so it was just a stroke of luck. The other shot of the brambles was just from our own backyard.
Keep helping us...
