The Old Ball Game

Last night, I took our autistic boy to see the Tacoma Rainiers play the Fresno Grizzlies. What a great time!

Most of the seats aren't that far away from the action and for the price of a movie ticket, you can have a heck of a great time and not be cooped up in some dark theater. Last night was even better than usual because it was a double header.

In the first game, we watched the home team route the hapless Grizzlies 12-3. It was almost painful to watch the boys from Fresno take such a pounding!

The Rainiers beat the Grizzlies in the second game by a more modest score of 2-1.

It was chilly, the hot dogs were barely edible and the lines at the snack bar were long, but you can't beat an evening of good baseball. There were no superstars - yet. The Rainiers are a farm team in the mariner's system, so there might have been a future star in the mix. All you get is just plain good baseball by guys trying to make the big time.

The bottom line is this:

You can spend the money for gas to go to Seattle, pay as much as a ticket for the game just to park, get a seat in the nosebleed section for three times as much, or you can go to Cheney stadium where you can actually see the game and not spend near as much money.

And as a bonus (at least this season), you probably have a better chance to see the home team win here at Cheney then you will at Safeco.

We'll be going back for at least a couple more games this summer.
