Oktoberfest!

It's October and the blustery wind is beginning to blow the leaves off the trees. It's that time of year when we dress a little warmer and go outside less.

It's also that time of year for beer lovers to celebrate their favorite activity. Drinking beer! It's time for Oktoberfest!

We drove over to the Puyallup fairgrounds where they are again holding the local Oktoberfest.

During the day there is activities for all ages.

You can test our knowledge of Germany here. (The test is probably even hard for a German citizen, so be warned!)

The kids can have a mug, too!

Hammerschlagen!

They have a little hammerschlagen competition going on. The purpose is to be the first to drive a nail completely into a stump
so that the head is completely flush. You pass the hammer around and each person gets one hit to drive the nail. If you miss, you pass the hammer to the next person. You keep going until one contestant drives their nail down flush.

And did I tell you that you had to use the wedge end of the hammerhead? Watch the nal in the middle. That's mine

My first hit drove it within 3/4 inch of the stump.

My second hit missed it completely, but my third "nailed" it, so to speak.

A close up!

My last turn put it away. I won the round, but I didn't win anything but a few pride points. Not bad for a guy with no depth perception, eh?

They had some live entertainment.

Well, it's time to quench the thisrst!

Oh yeah, that tastes good!

Prost!

I had the Paulaner Oktoberfest brew, It was nice and malty, but I also have some Samuel Adams Oktoberfest at home and I gotta tell ya, I like the Samuel Adams version a tad more.

All in all, it was a bit pricey (that beer and mug set me back 35 bucks plus eight bucks admission), but for us beer lovers, it's worth it! If you just want it in a plastic cup, a 16 oz cup will cost ya 5 dollars.

It's on until tomorrow. so go enjoy a good beer!

Wonderful post, VW. Wish I had time to make it there, but it's going on my list of "future must-dos" and I thank you for taking me along to Oktoberfest!

All this about Oktoberfest and not a word about the GREEK festival?? The smells made my mouth water just driving by!

Ah, yes, the Greek Festival. St. Nick's always puts on a wonderful festival. I didn't make it this year, but will be sure to next year.

Someone else will have to do the Greek Festival. Feta cheese and I don't get along. :)

I bet the slovaki would go down, okay, VW, but I'll volunteer to sample your share and the baklava, too!
