The Washington Renaissance Faire has long been a source of enchanted entertainment for the Northwest in August. It will be missed this year and the Lords and Ladies of the Northwest will have to find diversion elsewhere this summer.

Dang.
This year I was really planning to go.
As an alternative may I recommend the Society for Creative Anachronism's (SCA) "Known Wide World of Sports" event in Kent.

And the SCA is holding more than a dozen events when the Ren Faire would otherwise be held.

Lay on!
Thanks so much for the information, Kinsmed! It sounds like a good alternative.
Stephanie, I think it's very sad when traditional, long-time events get canceled like this!
I guess I am a little confused; why did it get moved? What's the deal with not getting the permit?
The Ren Faire has attracted more and more people and wanted a perminent site where they could have facilities. Land was purchased in Belfair. I'm not clear on what the reasoning was on the part of Mason County for denying permits to the group for putting on the faire.
The Mason County Daily News website (www.masoncountydailynews.com) has an article posted 7/15/08 by Dedrick Allan "D-N-R Upholds Order - No Renaissance Faire This year" that covers this topic if you are interested.
I found it by Googling the event this morning.
Thank you, Mizu. I hadn't had time to look into it further, but our entire family was disappointed.
