Last night at the Pantages theater in Tacoma, I got to sip (along with a SOLD OUT crowd) Portland's eclectic, modern, jazzy, 50's inspired band, Pink Martini. It was delicious. The vocals and musicians were truly spectacular often translating their toe tappin' music into a world affair. Songs were sung in Italian, Spanish, French, and even Turkish. The joint was jumping and it was exciting to see downtown so alive and moving.
Here are a couple of samples of their music. I dare you NOT to move to the beat. And to think, this band is from these parts, the Great Northwest! So cool. Way to kick off the 2009-2010 theater season, Broadway Center of the Performing Arts!

Sounds and looks like fun, Kim! You might be interested in knowing about a Sinatra Tribute show that will be in Seattle on Valentines Day. Dave's bother plays in the orchestra. Details to come.
Oh wow! My son LOVES Sinatra (yes, really!) and knows many of the songs, lyric for lyric!
We've seen the show twice before. Last year they played at Harbor Ridge Middle School as a fundraiser for the band because the band teacher also plays in the orchestra. I sent invitatins to become fans to some of my friends on FB. If you like swing this band is awesome and the Sinatra show take you back to a differernt era. For me it's my childhood, but last year my mom had a great time reliving being a young mom. I think we should get a group together to go in February. I'm asking for it for my birthday. :-)

The members of the orchestra all have day jobs and the show only gets put on about once per year. It is done as dinner theater so you get the feeling of really being at the Sands. Keep your eye out for it to come around again.
