Is This Truly The Decade From Hell?

The most current Time magazine has a feature story that discusses how bad this last decade has been and the title on the cover reads, "The Decade From Hell." I heard on CNBC recently that the original title was, "The Worst Decade Ever."
Whatever the title you roll with, the point is pretty clear.

Do you believe this? Looking forward to discussion.

Ok, but lets start with the 1960s...a failed generation era. Then let's move into the 1970s...which aren't exactly a sparkling era of accomplishments. Then, into the 1980s...which are fairly lame and barely worth mentioning. Then into the 1990s...which really lacked any significant things to be that happy or pepped up about.

Frankly...from 2009 to 2016 (the next Time decade)...won't be any better than the past four decades.

Time and Newsweek are both desperate for subscriptions and readers...and this is the best that they can do?

Interesting point in your last paragraph--I think you are onto something there. I also loved your description of the 80's--LOL!

How come you think 2009 to 2016 won't be any better? Curious.

First take in this discussion... measureable time has little to do with Hell as I have experienced it...
I had to sit in the back of buses in the forties in Texas...I was so torn apart by feelings of guilt in the fifties that I only found some peace with my friends and losing myself in becoming a public speaker.. the sixties, Martin King and Bobby Kennedy were assassinated and I had to make a choice... be an honest person and deal with the negative fall out or keep my mouth shut and slowly die emotionally...
so... what is hell for me...
isolating myself from other people, numbing myself to reality with eating or drinking excessively, choosing to not do what I can to help somebody and thinking that I am alone and powerless...
Looking forward to reading what other folks write

I believe Life to be an oxymoronic existence...our job...to balance somewhere in the middle, given all of it.

I can tell you a story of my life that would have you weeping...and I can tell you a story of my life that would have you awed and delighted. both stories happen in the same decades...the same life.

The sixties were pretty incredible...I came to this exotic world of North America...yes, from the other side, this is pretty darn exotic!

The late sixties, early seventies were about Love...and seriously standing up for it in my world...breaking taboos to stand with all my brothers and sisters.

Things of an uncool nature began to happen in the 80's...Reagan's White House spawned a few devils that were allowed to get us into some pretty serious trouble while becoming very rich men. The eighties was a troubling decade to me. People I thought wanted to change the world...suddenly sold it for a lot of toys...and a lot of cocaine...giving rise to some of the most awful business moves...and some of THE worst hairstyles and fashions EVAH!!!!

LOL...we may still be in trouble...but we LOOK better! I believe chaos is the lip of change...and we are in the lip of change. It's been a personally difficult decade, as you all know...but I still get to make my choices about happiness....and I get to live in Paradise, with a loving family who spread our love liberally. It always is what you make it...no matter what's handed to you.

Peace and Love to you all...in every decade! Lox

Lorraine: thank you...I still remember a lot of folks I loved who drank themselves to death...
I cannot imagine a sadder more acceptable way to kill oneself than excessive drinking...
At the same time many of them made life absolutely miserable for those who lived with them...
And quite often they blamed family and friends for the isolation they experienced...
I find a great deal of joy in being with sober folks who are choosing to put living life with its ups and downs clear headed and drug free one day at a time...
